, a native of Woodland, graduated from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and did his training in Pathology there as well. While serving on the faculty, he studied FNA at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. He returned to the Sacramento Valley where he was first associated with Diagnostic Pathology Medical Group, where he served as a director of their needle biopsy, cytopathology, and outpatient divisions. He and Dr. Mathios founded OPA in 1987. Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with Added Qualification in Cytopathology, Dr. Abele is Director of OPA's Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy Clinic and was Co-director of the Annual UCSF Fine Needle Aspiration Course for twenty years.

Daniel A. Egerter graduated from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and did his training in Pathology there as well. He also completed fellowships in Surgical Pathology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and Cytopathology at UCSF. He also studied FNA at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1989 he joined Drs. Abele and Mathios at OPA. He is Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology with Added Qualification in Cytopathology. He is fluent in German.

Ricardo H. Bardales, M.D., a graduate of the Universidad de San Marcos School of Medicine in Lima, Peru, completed his pathology residency and cytopathology fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City under the renowned Dr. Leopold G. Koss. He is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Cytopathology. Formerly on the faculty of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences as the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he is active in numerous national and international pathology organizations and is frequently an invited lecturer at meetings throughout the world. He has published a book, various chapters, and over 60 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Bardales is fluent in Spanish.

Maaya Wilton M.D. graduated from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine and completed anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of California Davis in Sacramento where she also served as Chief Resident. Two fellowships followed residency, in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology, both also at UC Davis. She joined OPA in 2009 and is Board Certified in Anatomic and Board Eligible in Clinical Pathology as well as Cytopathology.

Anthony J. Mathios graduated from George Washington School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. before training in Pathology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). After serving on the faculty, he was first associated with Diagnostic Pathology Medical Group, where he served as a director of their needle biopsy, cytopathology, and outpatient divisions. He also studied FNA at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. Together with Dr. Abele he founded OPA in 1987. Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with Added Qualification in Cytopathology, Dr. Mathios retired in 2007.
